Proposal

Reblogged: The Effects of Social Networking is a 10-minute documentary that reveals the pros and cons of young people blogging; the documentary will focus on the images of people, which enhance their paranoia and insecurity based on their appearance.

The camera will show different perspectives on different blog users and will express their true emotions towards their own blog and those around them. Re-bloged will interview and focus on different age groups that actually have a blogs.

The documentary can get results by using the Internet to get evidence and proof of people trying to better how they look to compete with blog users images. The re-blogged team will email companies and get permission to use certain footage and images.

Re-blogged: The Effect of Social Networking  is a reality documentary. It’s based on what really happens over the Internet and the positive and negative effects on people’s social lives of those using the blogs.

The documentary will need to use pictures to compare information with. The documentary is going to use a voice over to help the audience understand what stages they’re at and is also going to show evidence of people getting interviewed.

Task 5 – Individual Summary

Reblogged: The effects of social networking is a 10-minute documentary about blogging on social networking sites.

We reveal the pros and cons of young people blogging; the documentary will focus on the images of people, which enhance their paranoia and insecurity based on their appearance.

The equipment that is being used to film our documentary is of industry standards. The equipment that we will is a camcorder, a tripod, tripod plate, headphones, microphones and a fish pole.

In order to get our facts and information correct about blogging; especially on social networking sites like Tumblr and Twitter, we decided to research the company, the website and the users. We looked at statistics such as how many people use social networking sites.

When interviewing our interviewee’s, there will be certain questions that we will ask them to get a response. For example we will ask them if the have ever been affected by cyber-bullying or if they have ever cyber bullied themselves. Depending on the response from the person being interviewed, we will only feature the responses that are of a good enough standard.

The main theme of our documentary is investigative. We want to find out the effects and thoughts behind blogging; what happens after the damage of cyber-bulling has been done and how people feel about social networking.

Task 6 – Research

TWITTER:

Twitter is an online social networking service and micro blogging service that enables its users to send and read text-based posts of up to 140 characters, known as “tweets”. It was created in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey and launched that July. The service rapidly gained worldwide popularity, with over 300 million users as of 2011,generating over 300 million tweets and handling over 1.6 billion search queries per day.It has been described as “the SMS of the Internet.”

Statistics: Tweets Per Day

  • In 2007 the average was 5,000 tweets per day.
  • In 2008 that had grown to 300,000
  • In 2009 tweets per day averaged 2.5 million.
  • In 2010 that number was 35 million tweets per day.
  • In the month of March 2011 alone, 140 million tweets are being sent on average per day.
  • As of June 2011, users on Twitter are now averaging 200 million Tweets per day.

Twitter Demographics:

On September 7, 2011, Twitter announced that it has 100 million active users logging in at least once a month and 50 million active users every day.

In an article published on January 6th, 2012, Twitter was confirmed to be the biggest social media network in Japan, with Facebook following closely in second. comScore confirmed this, stating that Japan is the only country in the world where Twitter leads Facebook.

TUMBLR:

Tumblr is a microblogging platform and social networking website, owned and operated by Tumblr, Inc. The service allows users to post multimedia and other content to a short-form blog, named a “tumblelog.” Users can follow other users’ blogs, as well as make their blogs private. Much of the website’s features are accessed from the “dashboard” interface, where the option to post content and posts of followed blogs appear.

US Demographics on Tumblr:

The US is Tumblr’s highest source of traffic. We all know Tumblr skews to a young demographic, but perhaps most surprising is the 46% of Tumblr users over 35.

Also surprising is the more even split between male and female users (51%/49%), which I’d have guessed was skewed slightly more female.

Though the age brackets differ slightly, the comScore graph shows a more expected swing to the youth demographic, with half of Tumblr’s traffic coming from those under the age 25.

FACEBOOK:

Facebook is a social networking service and website launched in February 2004, operated and privately owned by Facebook Inc. As of February 2012, Facebook has more than 845 million active users. Users must register before using the site, after which they may create a personal profile, add other users as friends, and exchange messages, including automatic notifications when they update their profile.

Average users, figures and facts for Facebook:

  • Average user has 130 friends on the site
  • Average user sends 8 friend requests per month
  • Average user spends an average 15 hours and 33 minutes on Facebook per month
  • Average user visits the site 40 times per month
  • Average user spends an 23 minutes (23:20 to be precise) on each visit
  • Average user is connected to 80 community pages, groups and events
  • Average user creates 90 pieces of content each month
  • 200 million people access Facebook via a mobile device each day
  • More than 30 billion pieces of content are shared each day
  • Users than access Facebook on mobile devices are twice as active on Facebook compared to non-mobile users
  • Facebook generates a staggering 770 billion page views per month
 MYSPACE:

Myspace (previously styled as MySpace and My_____) is a social networking service owned by Specific Media LLC and pop star Justin Timberlake. Myspace launched in August 2003 and is headquartered in Beverly Hills, California. In August 2011, Myspace had 33.1 million unique U.S. visitors. Myspace was founded in 2003 and was acquired by News Corporation in July 2005 for $580 million. From 2005 until early 2008, Myspace was the most visited social networking site in the world, and in June 2006 surpassed Google as the most visited website in the United States. In April 2008, Myspace was overtaken by Facebook in the number of unique worldwide visitors, and was surpassed in the number of unique U.S. visitors in May 2009. Since then, the number of Myspace users has declined steadily in spite of several redesigns. As of December 2011, Myspace was ranked 138th by total web traffic.

Task 12: Risk Assessment

My team and I held interviews all of over Westminster Kingsway College as well as Oxford Circus, Argyll Street, Kingly Court and Carnaby Street. When considering the risk assessment, we covered all aspects of Health and Safety. One of the places that we filmed for out documentary was the smoking area in Westminster Kingsway College. Because of all the outdoor equipment such as the table tennis platform and the benches and bins; we had to film in a area where there was nothing that could harm or potentially bring any kind of danger to ourselves and our interviewees. No more than 4 interviews took place outside.

We also filmed inside the college in such places as the balcony, classrooms, back of staircase and the hallway. All of these places are health and safety hazards for the general public. My team and I had to take serious precautions when it came to checking the safety areas. There were hardly any fire extinguishers or fire exit where we filmed some of our interviews however incase of an emergency there were staircases. The images below are camera pictures that me and my team took of the area we were filming. In the second image you can see that we had carefully placed the chair next to staircases incase of an emergency. The camera, which had several wires attached to it had to be positioned opposite the chair so that we could interview someone. An incident did occur whilst filming in this area. A lady tripped over some of the wires, which meant that we had to move. There was no space for the remaining public to walk.

In terms of safety, we filmed in area where fire extinguishers were present in case of a fire. Not only were fire extinguishers present but the instructions on how to use the fire extinguisher was there. There were several fire exits available for incase there was a fire. This made interviewing easier for my team because we had to take everybody’s safety into consideration. Once again we checked for things that could be considered a hazard and once we realised that everything was good then we continued to interview.

When it came to equipment such as the camera and headphones, we made sure that the wires were far away from the publics harm.
