Images in Advertising – Rimmel London

The image from an advert that I decided to choose to analyze is Kate Moss’ new lipstick collection for Rimmel London.

Rimmel London is a Make-up and Cosmetics Company that sells products that are mainly facial based. Rimmel London’s adverts always promote the product and the celebrity endorsement. Majority of there products are aimed at women/young teenagers who are interested in Make-Up and Beauty products.

Denotation:-

The advert is an image of Kate Moss and her new lipstick collection. There are 3 images in the advert, 2 of which are of the actual product and the other one is an image of the celebrity model. The image of the lipstick is positioned right next to Kate Moss seeing as it’s her product. The camera angle is a mid close up of Kate Moss’ face. This places the reader in the centre of the advert because when they look at the advert they are instantly drawn into her face. The images are neutral (an eye level shot).

Technical Codes:-

The image is a high quality, full of colour, advertisement.

  • The celebrity model in the advert is 37
  • Gender is Female, Racial: White, Social Class: Middle Class

  • The facial expressions are ….
  • No stereotypes are being represented
  • There’s no relationships between any of the people in the advert, however you could argue the case that there is a relationship between the product and the celebrity model
